Days 2-4: Osa Peninsula
A remote land of jungle forests and wild beaches, Osa Peninsula stands as the last remaining virgin forest in Central America. Osa is home to Corcovado National Park, the crown jewel of Costa Rica’s National Park system where many endangered animal and plant species still thrive. Truly a paradise lost, this is a place where jaguars still roam the jungles, scarlet macaws fly freely over the canopy, and monkeys are found in numbers unmatched in all of Central America. The days in the jungle are fast-paced, with exciting activities such as sunrise bird watching tours, hikes in the forest and snorkeling off deserted islands. For the most intrepid, it is possible to arrange horseback rides, jungle biking excursions and scuba diving trips. The evenings are magical, relaxing on a hammock, searching for nocturnal animals, and listening to the sounds of the jungle under a clear, star-studded sky.
Days 5-7: Arenal
A mighty volcano towers over lush green pastures and plantations of yucca and papaya; rushing waters heated by the volcano are channeled into natural hot springs, offering a relaxing experience after a day of explorations. A natural playground made for both children and children at heart, Arenal offers an endless array of possibilities to explore the pristine surroundings. During your stay, we have arranged a horseback ride to the beautiful La Fortuna Waterfall and a fascinating hike on lava fields and forest trails at the foot of the volcano. The rest of your stay, you may continue exploring the area on mountain bikes, ATVs, soaring over the canopy, or paddling down a river. If you don’t feel playful, you may always join a relaxing wildlife observation tour, soothe your muscles in the hot springs, indulge in a spa treatment, or just sit down in your hotel balcony and watch the mighty volcano. Time to rumble!
Days 8-9: Monteverde
As the small community of Monteverde looms in the horizon the traveler begins to understand that he is bound for a magical land, one that he may have imagined many times as a child while listening to a fairy tale before retiring to sleep. Frequently draped in mist and clouds, Monteverde emanates a sense of ancient and enduring life. Algae, mosses and lichens get a foothold on the constantly wet surfaces, providing a place for orchids, bromeliads, ferns and innumerable other plants to cling to. Life is lived at a slow pace in the quaint village and farms, with locals minding their daily chores while constantly keeping a protecting eye on the lush surroundings. Hundreds of species of mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles thrive in this idyllic environment, which may feel colder than you would have expected for a tropical country but which will leave a warm imprint in your soul.
Day 10: The Central Valley, amid coffee plantations and tropical rivers
In shear contrast with the hustle and bustle of San Jose, the surrounding Central Valley is a fertile agricultural region made up of primary mountain forests, biological reserves, and coffee plantations. A delicate balance has been maintained between agricultural development and ecological preservation that can be seen in haciendas that still use traditional methods and the careful development of ecotourism activities that engage the local population allowing for the conservation of forests and rivers. Your last day will be spent at one of our boutique properties, a haven of peace and tranquility featuring stunning architecture, miles of private trails, a gourmet restaurant, spa service, and commanding vistas of the Valley
